PEOPLE / CULTURE
The area around Solomon’s Pools has provided a pleasant atmosphere for picnics and relaxation over the centuries. Sadly, since the construction of the Solomon’s Pools Resort Center in 1997 the pools were dried and the people can no longer freely use the area as in the past.
In the area around Solomon pools various crops are cultivated, especially lettuce. Actually, a festival on lettuce heritage is organized every year since 1995 by the Artas Center for cultural Heritage in collaboration with the ministries of tourism, culture and civil institutions in Bethlehem.
The Solomon pools comprise an important aspect in the lives of the nearby villages of Artas and Khader, as they have been using their water for centuries. The pools referred in various marriage and religious feasts and in popular songs of the region.
