Hydria Virtual Museum

ΣΗΜΑΣΙΑ

Η Αγορά, η καρδιά της δημόσιας ζωής στην αρχαία Αθήνα, αποτελούσε την έδρα της κεντρικής διοίκησης και της δικαιοσύνης, το κέντρο του εμπορίου και της οικονομικής δραστηριότητας. Πριν την κλασική περίοδο, η Αρχαία Αγορά ήταν ο τόπος συνάθροισης της Εκκλησία του Δήμου και φιλοξενούσε ποικίλες ψυχαγωγικές εκδηλώσεις, όπως θέατρο, χορό, αθλητικά δρώμενα και εκθέσεις, τις οποίες απολάμβαναν οι Αθηναίοι.

Η Αγορά αποτελούσε τον αγαπημένο τόπο συνάθροισης για τους κατοίκους της Αθήνας από τον 8ο αιώνα π.Χ. μέχρι τον 3ο αιώνα μ.Χ., οπότε καταστράφηκε ολοσχερώς από τους Ερούλους. Εκεί λάμβαναν χώρα σημαντικές κοινωνικές και πνευματικές δραστηριότητες. ήταν ο πυρήνας της πόλης. Σε αυτό το διάστημα κατασκευάστηκαν στην Αγορά διάφορα υδραυλικά έργα, άρδευσης αλλά και αποστράγγισης, με σκοπό να εξυπηρετήσουν τις αυξημένες ανάγκες του πληθυσμού.

Όλα αυτά τα έργα, πηγάδια, στέρνες, βρύσες, υδραυλικές και αποχετευτικές εγκαταστάσεις, παρουσιάζονται εδώ κυρίως μέσω διαγραμμάτων. Επιπλέον, υπάρχουν φωτογραφίες των ερειπίων των υδραυλικών έργων, καθώς ίχνη τους διασώζονται μέχρι σήμερα, 2.500 χρόνια μετά. Τα ερείπια αυτά μπορεί ο επισκέπτης να τα θαυμάσει στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Αγοράς.
