Through the ages the pond has been used to collect and store rain water during the winter season to be used later by the farmers from the area for several purposes. The pond itself and the surrounding area have been widely documented in poems and songs. They both refer to a lively life around the site decades ago. The society around the pond used to benefit from the water especially in summer times and during arid periods. There is still an appreciation to such source of water that was of great help to the community, especially in irrigation as the community was basically agricultural.
