Present Status
The St. John Maroun spring is public. After the installation of the water network system in Ghouma the spring has been abandoned and is only used by shepherds, hunters and a few visitors.
According to a recent survey the inhabitants of Ghouma know very well its value and importance. They would like to benefit from this site on different levels: religious, environmental and touristic.
The following ideas were suggested by them:
- To register the site on the eco-touristic map of Lebanon
- To coordinate with the religious authorities to include this site on the religious map…also a suggestion to bottle its water and provide it to religious visitors.
- To build a dam in front of the spring whereby rain water could be collected forming together with the winter river an artificial lake where fish could be bred.
